Overview of different silo types

This page serves as an overview of different types of silos. Almost all of our standard silos can be converted into one of the following silo types by integrating accessories and components. For further information please contact us.

Explosion-protected silos

Many products of the bulk goods industry are potentially explosive. We offer explosion-protected silos for storage and provisioning of hazardous and combustible materials. The respective design and dimensioning of explosion-protected silos and tanks is in accordance with valid standards, laws and regulations. The main goal of explosion protection is to prevent the development of a dangerous explosive atmosphere and limit the results of an explosion to a safe level.

Big silos

Standard aluminium or stainless steel silos, which are not manufactured in our plant but rather on site, are called big silos.

Indoor silos

Indoor silos are used especially in buildings and installations. They are built using support brackets to be set on a steel substructure or pedestals. For the design with pedestals, we require a concrete slab as a foundation, which can carry the weight of the silo. The anchoring in this case is carried out using glue peg. The heights and widths of the access paths and building heights to be used must be taken into account when deciding on the silo dimensions.

Chamber silos, Multichamber silos

Chamber and multichamber silos are suitable especially for large ranges of products, separation of batches and small batches. Chamber and multichamber silos are perfect for limited space conditions.

Construction silos (on site assembly)

The demand for increasingly large storage capacities led to P+W Metallbau's setting up the installation of silos on site in other countries such as Russia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Greece etc. These so-called construction silos enable our clients to cost-effectively install aluminium and stainless steel storage and blending silos in practically all relevant places in the world with qualified personnel. This is made possible by a modular assembly process using prefabricated segments. In order to optimise this process, we have additionally invested in improved computer-aided production technology in Meckenbeuren.

Plug-in silos, inboxable silos

To minimise transportation costs, we build silos also called plug-in silos and inboxable silos. Especially in case of multiple similar silos, transportation costs can be considerably reduced.

Loading silos, weighing silos

Specifically for loading bulk goods to trucks or ships, we build aluminium and stainless steel loading silos which are installed on steel substructures or concrete constructions. The silo stand is tailored to the respective application regarding its width and height. The extracted amount can be measured by a P+W weighing system without interrupting the extraction process. The measuring accuracy of weighing silos in logistics facilities is about one percent of the total system weight.
